RAML 2018

The 2018 Ruth Alston Memorial Lecture and Dinner held on 6th March 2018  was a resounding success! As in previous years the event was held in the Oasis Suite of the Crowne Plaza Hotel during the 2-day Health and Wellbeing at Work event. Over 70 members and guests attended to hear guest speakers Nancy Doyle of Genius Within and BBC’s Employable Me and Angus Baskerville, Magician and Mentalist.

Highlights of the evening –

Our first speaker for the evening was Angus Baskerville. Angus is a magician and mentalist who amazed our guest at the drinks reception with his magic and sleight of hand. He is exceptionally gifted at magic because of his ‘superpower’ – he has Autism.  Angus went on to give an eloquent and inspiring speech explaining how autism affects him and the employment challenges that he has had along the way.

Our second speaker was Nancy Doyle, an occupational psychologist specialising in the workplace support of adults with neuro-differences. She is the founder and CEO of Genius Within, a social enterprise that supports people to improve their productivity at work through diagnosis, assessment and coaching of ‘neurodiverse’ conditions. Nancy convenes the British Psychological Society’s working group on Neurodiversity and Employment and was consuted on the recent BBC2 series ’employable me’. she also writes for ACAS research.

Our guests raised over £150 from the proceeds of the charity raffle. Together with Nancy’s additional donation of her speaker gift we have made a total donation to her Just Giving page for her chosen charity Tourettes Action of £256.50. Thanks to all who donated. Nancy will be running the 2018 London Marathon to raise funds for Tourettes Action. If you were unable to attend RAML but would like to make a donation please visit her Just Giving page here.

Health and Wellbeing at Work (HWW) 2018

For the first time, the Faculty of Occupational Health Nursing (FOHN) and AOHNP shared a stall in anticipation of our upcoming merger in October 2018. The joint stall was continually busy with members new and old. AOHNP board members and activists were kept busy on the stall processing new and renewal memberships and selling copies of the new edition of Contemporary Occupational Health Nursing. The FOHN board were equally busy explaining the aims of the new combined organisation and collecting names of delegates interested in partnership working.
Nearly 70 new members joined on the day or since the conference and we expect this number to rise further in the coming weeks. AOHNP members will automatically become members of FOHN on the merger date. All AOHNP members will additionally benefit from capped FOHN membership fees until 1st October 2019.

RAML 2017

At the 2017 lecture we were delighted to welcome our founding President Carol Cholerton who gave a Silver Anniversary speech and introduced our keynote speaker Heather White, networking specialist and CEO of Smarter Networking Ltd.

The evening’s presentation by Heather was a huge success with members eager to share her wisdom on the subject of professional networking for occupational health specialists.

Heather has kindly shared many of her resources with  AOHNP members, with links and downloads available on the Smarter Networking page on the members’ area of this site.

Representatives from our sponsors Cohort Software attended the event and their recent blog page gives their more detailed account of the evening with some further photos.
